Articles - ఆర్టికల్స్
The Adjectives 'a' or 'an' and 'the' are usually called Articles. There are two articles as 1. a or an 2. The A, an, the అనునవి demonstrative Adjectives అయినప్ప టికి ఇంగ్లీషు గ్రామరులో వాటిని ప్రత్యేకంగా ఆర్టికల్స్ అని అంటారు.
A or an is called the Indefinite Article, because it leaves indefinite the person or thing is spoken (a, an అనునవి, ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన వ్యక్తి నిగాని, వస్తువునుగాని నిర్దేశించి తెలియజేసే వాటిని ఇన్ డెఫినెట్ ఆర్టికల్ అని అంటారు).
Ex : A teacher అంటే ఎవరైన టీచర్ అని అర్థం.
The' is called the Definite Article, because it points out some particular person or thing (The అనునది ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన వ్యక్తి నిగాని, వస్తువునుగాని నిర్దేశించి చెపుతుంది. కాబట్టి దీనిని డెఫినెట్ ఆర్టికల్ " అని అంటారు.
Ex : He saw the doctor, . అంటే అతడు ఒక డాక్టరును చూసాను అని అర్థం.
Use of Indefinite Articles, A or An :
1. A is used before a word beginning with a consonant Sound (హల్లు, శబ్దమునిచ్చు. మాటలముందు a ఉపయోగిం చవలెను)
Ex: a boy, a girl, a man, a woman, a cat, a chair, a child, a dog.
2. U.e. 'అనే అచ్చులు (Vovels) అయిన అక్షరములు కొన్ని మాటలముందు ప్రారంభమయ్యే హల్లు (consonant) శబ్దాన్ని ఇప్పే, ఆ మాటలముందు a ఉపయోగించవలెను.
Ex : a university, a union, a European, a uniform, a usefull thing.
3. A is used before a word beginning with a vowel which has a 'W (Consonant) sound. కొన్ని మాటల ముందు a ఉంచవలెను.
Ex: A one rupee note, a one eyed begger.
4. An is used before word beginning with a vowel sound అచ్చు శబ్దము నిచ్చు మాటలముందు an ఉపయోగిం చవలెను.
Ex: An orange, an Indian, an eye, an umbrella, an ant, an enemy, an oxe.
5. An is used before a word starting with 'h' which is silent ('h' అనే అక్షరముతో కొన్ని మాటలు ప్రారంభమయ్యి ఆh ఉచ్చారణలో పలుకకపోతే అట్టి మాటలముందు an ఉప యోగించవలెను.)
Ex : an hour, an honour, an historical hotel.
6. ఏక వచనములో నున్న Countable noun కు ముందు a కాని, an కాని ఉపయోగించవలెను.
Ex : a book, a pen, an onion, an ear, an egg.
Uncountable nouns: లెక్కించుటకు వీలులేనివి : Water, sugar, wood, etc.,
7. ఒక జాతి మొత్తాన్ని తెలియజేయు ఏకవచన nouns కు ముందు a కాని an ' కాని ఉపయోగించవలెను.
Ex : A dog is faithful animal (అన్ని కుక్కలూ అని అర్థం).
Use of the Definite Article, The :
The definite article the is used:
1. When we speak of a particular person or thing, or one already referred to (ఒక వ్యక్తిని గాని, వస్తువును గాని, లేక ఒక దానిని గురించి గాని ప్రత్యేకించి చెప్పేటప్పుడు The' ఉపయోగించాలి)
Ex: The book you want is out of publish. Tsaw the woman who was sing a song.
2. When a singular noun is meant to represent a whole class (ఒక జాతిని నిర్దేశించి చెప్పే ఏకవచనము నందున్న noun కి ముందు 'the' ఉంచాలి.)
Ex: The cow is tame animal.
3. When the names of gulfs, river, seas, oceans, canals, group of islands, mountain-ranges, valleys and deserts, (జలసంధులు, నదులు, సముద్రములు, మహా సము ద్రములు, కాలువలు, ద్వీపముల సమూహములు, పర్వత శ్రేణులు, లోయలు, ఎడారులు మొదలగు వాటి పేర్ల ఉందు 'The' ఉంచాలి.
Ex: The persian Gulf, The Ganges, The Krishna river, The Arabian sea, The Red sea, The Pecific Ocean, The Suez Canal, The Laccadive Islands, The Himalayas lie to the North of India (Mountain range) The Kashmir valley, The Thar Desert.
4. Before the names of certain books (ప్రత్యేకమైన గ్రంథముల పేర్ల ఉందు)
Ex : The Bible, The Ramayana, The Vedas, The Gita, The Koran.
5. Before common nouns which are names of things unique of their kind. (స్పషిలో ఒకే వస్తువు ఉండి దాని ఏకత్వమును తెలిపే nouns కి ముందు the . ఉంచవలెను. The Sun, The Moon, The Earth, The Sky.
6. Before the names of ships, trains and newspapers, ఓడలు, రైళ్ళు, వార్తా పత్రికల పేర్లముందు The ఉపయోగిస్తారు.
Ex: The ikranth, The Jala Usha, The Gandhi Jayanthi, The Godavari Express, The Madras mail, The Indian Express, The Hindu.
7. Before musical instruments సంగీత వాయిద్యముల పేర్ల ముందు the ఉంచాలి.
Ex : He can play the flute, Ravi plays the volin very well.
